My Girlfriend has missed a lot of time from work and is not able to hold a job for long for nausea and vomiting. We have been to a gastro-intestinal specialist, family practice doctors and specialist to find out the source of why she is vomiting and they do not know a cause. She was diagnose with pancreatitis which is a inflammation of the pancreas that causes violent vomiting and nausea but then another doctors say that she does not have pancreatitis. We thought it was Gaul stones, acid reflux but they said that was not it. In other words she still suffering for vomiting and throwing up and the one drug that does work with stopping it makes her extremely drowsy and tire. She needs to apply for Social Security Disability and I know they give an option to file on line but how can we find a doctor that will take the time to help her with getting the right paper work to get approved She has one minor child that she may be able to get benefits for under her own claim. Any good suggestions?

if you do not have a clear diagnosis, one that is not well documented, and is not on SSA's list of impairments, you will have a very, very difficult time.

In any event, you should put your application in (on-line) as soon as possible. It takes roughly 2-1/2 to 3 years to get approved and they will probably deny you more than once (the person who took my application at SS even told me that). It is best to put in your application now and while waiting get the appropriate medical treatment.

You need a doctors support saying that you can not work at all. I was lucky to have many doctors say I could not work (even the one SS sent me to).

After you reach your third denial, its time to get a representative. I got one that I had to pay very little and it was very helpful for me. I used Allsup and I have to pay them a little more than 5,000.00 but well worth it. I didn't have to do anything. You pay when you are approved. And in almost all cases (because they take so long) there is back pay involved. They are going to pay me back pay from 6/03, and I applied in 7/04. I think the representative helped.

You need a lawyer that specializes in disability. In the past 6 years disability has been much harder to get than in the past. If you are young and don't have a diagnosis it would be impossible. First find a doctor that can diagnose the problem and will sign off on it. Then apply for disability and be prepared for a long battle.

as far as I know your gf can go herself to the ssa an apply she will either be granted benefits or denied. If granted great thats one less worry on her. I f she is denied the best thing I can suggest is to take the letter of denial to a Internal Medicine doctor and explain your case and prior diagnoses. Best of luck.

why not find a cure or solution instead of looking for eay money? Disability will not stop her symptoms. And the benefits you take now are subtracted from the Social Secutiy you will receive in retirement, so her kid will have nothing anyway!
