Gross question - I'm sorry. My 3 year old son threw up ALL over his bed about 2 hours ago - he is fine - I think it may be something he ate. Anyway, his mattress stinks! Anyone have any remedies to get the smell out?

BTW - I asked this in the parenting section because I know there are plenty of parents who have been through this - lol. Thanks for your help!!

Put baking soda all over the top of the stain--thickly, it will help pull it out. Then, get a mattress cover, this won't be the last time something yucky gets on the mattress and a mattress cover is only about $5 at Walmart.

mix 2 parts baking soda, 1 part hot (not boiling) water in a spray bottle like what you'd use for laundry or hair styling. Then spray it all over the affected areas. This way it will soak into the mattress deep enough, without setting up a breeding ground for mildew. For gosh sakes, don't just febreeze it. there's germs from the odor that need to be killed. Coat with a thin...THIN...layer of dry baking soda when done. Maybe have him sleep on the couch for the night, or camp out with mom and dad for the night.

Been there done this...febreeze. Clean the area with laundry detergent and warm water. Then If you can put baking soda on the area, Baking soda absorbs. Let the matress air outside all day tomorrow and put more baking soda let sit a few hours the vacuum. spray with lysol and febreeze and the odor should be gone. It worked for me. Good luck with the little one. Hope he feels better.

We've found a wonderful product for those odors. It's a liquid cleaner called "Kids & Pets" which can be found in the carpet cleaning area of Target or Wal-Mart, etc. It takes the odors out and gets even the worst stains out (both for our 4 yr old and our dog).

Good luck and hope your son is feeling better soon.

carpet fresh, or pet fresh will get the smell out almost instantly. if you dont have those handy you could try Baking soda since i think its the main ingredient in those other two things (but not 100% sure) Just put the carpet fresh/or pet fresh on the spot where he threw up, wait a few minutes and vaccum up the powder or sweep it off. Smell gone! :)
