I was 17, he was 24. Now four years later, I still think about him. He doesn't consume me, but he is still so present in my thoughts and in my heart. PLUS he has been keeping contact, calling me every couple of months or so just to touch base. He recently wanted to get together, but I declined because I'm in a long term relationship. I haven't seen him in over 2 years, and even though I was happy I made the ethical decision not to get together with him, I still think about him all the time. We were never really friends, and the breakup wasn't disastrous, he wanted to be with other people, and I was very sad but not devastated...but our paths seem to cross ever so slightly every now and then. Sometimes I dont' care, and other times, I feel like a schoolgirl again...something nobody has ever made me feel. Should I just try to forget about him once and for all? Or is this a case of unfinished business leading to emotional baggage?

you need to resolve the old bf so you know if the long term relationship is the one or not...meet the old bf for lunch or dinner, you will know right away if there is actually anything there or not...but you need to do this for yourself...do not tell your current bf because it may hurt him for no reason... I think when you actually meet the old one you will realize that your long term is really what you want......... that this is just a case of an old fantasy ..

Sounds like you are remembering the relationship better than it actually was. If you were not devastated during the breakup, sounds like you need to stay where you are.
