I have been a sufferer of anxiety and panic attacks. I am not a great admirer of any prescription drugs to deal with the problem. I had similar side effects from prozac as you mentioned. This made me look for alternative treatment.

I recommend a combination of hypnotherapy and natural or herbal medicines because it worked for me. This is true that people may react differently to different treatments but this is a worth a try. This method of treatment has no side effects.

For information on natural/herbal treatment of anxiety go to the following source....Good Luck!!

I'm not a doctor, but I believe that some anti-depressants can help with anxiety as an off-label prescription. However, they can also have A LOT of side effects, some of which could make your anxiety/depression works. For the most part, if you are having panic attacks (I mean real panic attacks) anti-depressants aren't the first drug you should turn to. Instead you might need something like a benzodazepine (spelling?) like Valium, Clonazepam or others. Check with your doctor but don't immediately push for the anti-depressants w/o all the symptoms listed.

There is no clear evidence that one is consistently better than the other. If the side effects from one are troublesome then it is reasonable to discuss trying something different with your doctor.

SSRIs and other drugs in the antidepressant class are often used to treat anxiety disorders. They seem to work at least as well for these disorders as they do for depression.

Cognitive behaviour therapy is also effective: I'd be discussing this as an option with your doctor as well, especially if the medication approach is not satisfactory for you. Sometimes you have to try a number of different approaches to get the results that are best for you.
