It is estimated that up to 100,000 plants, representing more than one third of all the world's plant species, are currently threatened or face extinction in the wild. Botanic Gardens are playing a key role in protecting all our plants for the future.

You see there are only about 280,000 species of plants in the world and the many dozens and dozens of botanical gardens across the country and the world can maintain what is known as "viable populations" of some of these endangered plants to reintroduce them into the wild if the go extinct in the wild.
