I'm looking for a camera under $200, and thats above 5 megapixels (6-7, maybe even 8). I'd also like to find one with good battery life, and preferrably one that handles shaking well. I have shaky hands and many of my pictures on my other camera get blurred. It doesn't matter what size and shape, as long as it can fit in my backpack. I'll be taking photos outside, so a camera thats good at that would be nice, but not nessesary. Any suggestions? Thank you. (:

Personally, I use the Fuji Finepix A345...... the predecessor model to Fuji's A400 / A500 / A600 / A700 (and soon to come A820 + A900 entry level models), and have had great results with it... some of my best pics can be found here (all but 2 using my Fuji):

Battery life is good, especially since I switched to using high-capacity rechargable 2100mAh AA batteries
http://www.steves-digicams.com/nimh_batteries.html
A camera that uses AA batteries, rather than a type made specifically for a particular brand's design of camera is best, as you aren't left up a creek without a paddle once that battery is worn to the point it'll no longer recharge, are available in much higher capacity (so hold more charge, and last longer) ratings... and if those do run out on you, ya can pick a set of disposables to keep you going from virtually anywhere.

Don't forget you'll also need to buy an extra memory card (at least 256MB capacity), as all these cameras only come supplied with a p*ssy little 16MB jobbie that can only hold a couple of pictures (usually 7 at most in highest resolution mode).

I would think any camera would fit in a backpack. So what's with the having to have 5,6 7, or 8 megapixels? Between 4 and 6 would be sufficient. Buy a camera that has an image stabilizer for shaky hands. Lay off the booze, haha. Consider Canon cameras in that price range. Go to Website for reviews of different cameras dpreview.com

I just bought a Kodak Easy Share 7mp for $160. The pictures are beautiful, and I've never seen a good brand for less. I have yet to have one come out blurred. However, I think you will find that all digital cameras eat batteries up fast. The best thing to do is get rechargables and a charger.

A great pleace to search for specific features (and unbiased reviews) check out:

Take a close look at the different Olympus cameras as many of them are either water resistant or waterproof. And the new ones have image stabilization. You might want to spend just a little more to get a great camera.

any digicam as long as you can have a tryi-pod. this will help improve image stabilization and reduces image noises and distortiong even you buy a very cheap digicam.
