We are going to PV Easter week and are getting a car. My husband is from Latin America and speaks fluent Spanish which always helps. We always like to take trips out of the resort areas and stop at beaches, stores and restaurants wherever we end up...just sort of wander around. I have been reading that South of PV on highway 200 is really beautiful and I would like some suggestions for some highlights. I read that part of the highway is curvy and high on the mountain which is no problem for us to drive, but I am wondering how far those areas are from PV. Your suggestions and ideas would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I live in Melaque that's about 3.5 hours south of Vallarta if you don't make lots of stops along the way. It's very tempting! Once you leave Vallarta the first half of the trip is not right on the coast but once you reach Perula there is easier access.

Places to stop would be Perula, Tenacatita, La Manzanilla and Melaque/Barra ... if you have that much time. There are smaller, harder to get to places along the way.

I just noticed 'Easter Week' ... so be prepared for a mad-house ... the busiest time on Mexican beaches. Very hard to find hotel rooms.
