My personal favorite is CastAway. They are very good quality and have nice actions. I'm pretty sure they have a lifetime warranty too. If you're on more of a budget you can probably find a suitable Shakespeare. If you want to spend a lot of money there are tons of other brands and customs available. Check the links.
Good luck

It all depends on your taste. What type of action are you looking for, fast or slow? Most rod manufactures make all actions, but their opinion varies alot. You can take 3 different rods, made by 3 different companys that all say the same action on the blank and will feel different on the water. It really comes down to going to a fishing show or store and trying out different types to find out what brand you like.

If I were to recommend a company, look at Saint Croix. That is my favorite brand because they tend to run on the faster side in all their actions, IMO.

You should look at warranty for rods before you buy. Some manufacturers offer lifetime replacement warranty which is the best value. Believe me when I say stuff happens and getting a replacement for cost of returning a broken rod is hard to beat. Made in USA is of prime consideration in rod selection and purchasing. Shimano also has lifetime warranty.
I recently bought some Fenwick, and AiRRUS rods which I really like for the price. Boyd Duckett, winner of the 2007 BASSMASTER CLASSIC uses AiRRUS N-SYNC SERIES RODS. That says something.

Try this site and read comparisons for different manufacturers fishing rods, reel and tackle.

It depends what fishing you are going to do. But here's a good website for very good quality rods and reels: www.acadiasports.com

Also, it depends how much money you're willing to spend. Fishing can get expensive, especially if you're new to the game.

A good bet is to check Bass Pro Shops for fishing combos. They have rods and reels which are matched for each other.

Make sure that you have at least one multi-species rod. One that can handle Bass as well as Catfish.

Hope it helped some. Good luck.

Anything made by shakespeare, which includes the best fishing poles ever (the ugly stik) I have 6 poles and all are made by shakespeare. I have 2 ugly stiks, a 6 foot for bass fishing and a 4 foot 6 or 8 inch for bluegill and crappie fishing. Shakespeare is a good quality, cheap company

Depends on the fish your after really, I like berkley rods for bass fishing. They are not as expensive as most good bass fishing rods and they hold up , I have had a few of mine for ten years and use them alot fishing tourn. If you are after smaller fish such as crappie then I would use a good ugly-stick. I use one of them for crappie and a berkley , but for crappie I like the ugly-stick. If you go Wal-mart you can find them both at good prices. Berkley IM rods seem to be the best 6 or 7 would do.

Good fishing

I own 2 Ugly Stiks and 2 Bass Pro brands. The Bass pro ones are both combos. A Rick Clunn combo and a Johnny Morris combo. I havn't had a chance to use the Johnny Morris yet, but I cant say enough about the Rick Clunn. Love it.

You can't beat a good old Ugly Stick or a Rhino Rod. For the price and durability they can't be beat.Sure you could spend allot more but the average fisherman doesn't need to .They also work for salt water.I take mine when I go to FLA. when visiting and I fish as much as I can.Mine have given me around 10yrs.of good fishing.

I like St. Croix myself. Nice rods. My grandpa prefers a 14' cane pole. He always seems to catch more fish then me.
