I am learning both French and Spanish...One problem I have with both languages is remembering to use "un" or "una" or "un" or "une" .."le" or "la"...etc.. But my question is...does it really sound funny to a french/ spanish speaker when you use the wrong one or is it really not that big of a deal?

Yes, it sounds funny. Of course we understand the mistake if the person is a foreigner. But if you want to speak it well, you should try to use the right one.
As an example, as a native Spanish speaker, I sometimes make the mistake in spoken language between his and her, since in Spanish it's the same word: "su". Wouldn't it be funny for you if I use "her" when I'm talking about a man? It's something similar.
