I have a zoom lens that i purchased for my film camera and wondered if it would work on a digital camera. Is there a website or manufacturer website that would provide a cross reference?

If it is a Nikon Mount Auto focus lens it should work fine on any Nikon Mount Digital SLR with the possible exception of the new D40 - which I believe only uses the "G" type lenses where the lens opening is set electronically.

If it is a Nikon Mount Manual Focus lens and if it was made in the past 25 years (so it has an Ai type mount) it will work on the same cameras - however the meter will not couple on the less expensive cameras (such as the D70, D80, and D100), so you will have to set the exposure by guessing. If you have a D200, the lens will couple to the meter.

- Keep in mind that because the sensor on Nikon digital SLRs is smaller than 35mm full frame, your lens will act like a lens with a 1.5X longer focal length. (For example, a 70 to 200mm) will act like a 105mm to 300 mm lens on a 35mm film camera.)

Just about any film camera lens will work on any digital camera as long as it uses the same or similar mount. I have a 135 lens with a screw mount that I had to "shim up" a bit to get it to fit my Pentax DSLR, but it works fine. The only real problems are the auto functions may not work and you'll have to use the manual settings, and, The real focal length wont be quite the same since the distance from the lens to the film plane is not the same to the digital sensor. The lens will still work, but the "distance" indicator will not be correct, but focus is still dead on in the view finder. It's just that if the dial reads 8 ft, for example, the real point of focus distance will be different. Who cares, if the "shot" is in focus in the finder the fact that a 135 film camera lens isn't really 135 when used on DSLR, the photo will still be OK.

If the digital camera has the same lens mount as your Nikon film camera, then the lens should work. E.g., if your digital camera is also a Nikon, your lens should work

It will fit a Nikon, but the meter will work only on the high end models Nikon D200, D2xs. If it is a Pre AI lens that haven't been modified it will not fit.

It will probably work. You may not get very hi resolution, but it will work.
