The proper name is MUTT. It is not a breed so there is no other name.

I would call it a dachshund/shih-tzu mix. Or a mutt, or a mixed breed. As far as I know this has not yet become a designer dog. I do dog rescue and we get a lot of cross breeds that are hard to identify, or even figure out how it happened, like a great Dane and a Chihuahua mix. Did you get this from a breeder who charged you big bucks? Or did you get it from a shelter. I'd be more interested in the dog's temperament and behavior. In my family I have a dachs mix and my son has a Shih-tsu. They are very different temperamentally, so I would do some studying on both breeds so you can anticipate their behavior. Shih-tsu is very territorial. Dachs is smart and sneaky. By the way, Dachshund means badger dog-they are bred to go into holes and flush out badgers. The proper pronunciation is dachs (dox) hund, sometimes called doxies.

I do agree that it is a mutt, but I hate hearing that name, it sounds like they consider the dog crap when they are really no different then any other dog. I've heard people call it a Shih Tzu Dachshund mix though.

Like the others said, it is just a mixed breed, a mutt. Giving it a fancy name will not change that. Mutts can make good pets too.

There isn’t one. There are thousands of possible mixes, and not every one has a special name. In fact, only a tiny percent of them do.
