Pro's-I got to travel to a lot of different countries, I met a lot of great people, I'm stationed in San Diego which is a plus for me, I got to go to some really good schools.
Con's-Living on a ship sucks (but not everyone goes to a ship though), training cycle's are a lot of hard work and lots of time out to sea, The pay kind of sucks until you you make E-5 (talk to a recruiter about going to boot camp as an E-3)
Overall I think it's been a good experience and I'd do it again if I had to, it's a challenge at times but it made me a stronger person.

Pro - you can launch sub nukes from around the world
Con - people can also launch sub nukes

Conventional warfare is a thing of the 20th century. A new generation of families, has been born. During last century, when the greatest battleship war between Nazi , Teddy R. "battleship" construction boom, etc. was used to great effect partly due to the fact their airplanes do not have gps/laser guided missles and artillery. In WW2 sometimes the navy ships can outlast an airplane on the seas because piston engines were still pretty undeveloped, airplanes carried limited ammo as well. Today, you will notice most navy's in EU, Russia, China, US develop more and more submarines and stealth boats ran by nuclear for increased range, yet a sub can only go so fast, and they find building one sub costs a lot of money.

Although today, airplane is much more lethal, there is one thing about the ocean, it can never be conquered like the skies.

The Navy knows if it comes into conflict it will suffer heavy loses. So the idea of future navy would only mean one thing. More robot controlled ships and more soldier.......

After Spending most of my adult life in the Navy, I can't answer with Pro's or Cons. Everything you do in or out of the military has pros and cons. I will say I hated the first 8 weeks of the Navy, but after boot camp I loved it. Your either going to do it, and do it right. Or not join at all. I can Never regret the decisions I have made and have also made lifelong friends out of my military life. Its a steady paycheck, and gets better by how much you want study, you go all over the world, they pay for virtually everything, and your doing more for your country than these goofballs who are downing all our soldiers. Make the choice and do the best you can, then you can answer your own question :)

Pro's - Better places to go while on deployment and funner places to get stationed.
- You very likely will never directly be in combat.
- Better living conditions than the other branches
- Deployments are usuallly 6 to 8 months.
- Shore duty is the big pay off for a crappy three or four year sea tour!

Con's
- They don't exactly treat eachother with respect, fairness, they have to be just, the don't have to be nice. Which they won't be nice either.
- Being stuck on a ship for 6+ months on deployment.
- Deployments are more frequent
-

Military pro and cons in general...
Pro's
- GI Bill, Tuition Assistance! They pay for your education.
- Medical, Dental coverage
- 30 days of paid vacation time.
- You may get to learn a marketable skill
- Learn about management and leadership
- Honor.
- Fewer obnoxious people!

Cons
- There are the rare total jerks in the militarys, there is generally one completely obnoxious person per command. Try not to be that person. The ratio is about 1000 cool people per 1 totally obnoxious jerk. So if you are on an LHD with 1000 people, there will be one person that offends everyone!
- You may get learn a skill set that is totally useless in the private sector.
