My upper arm was more painful than my inner wrist. To me the tighter the skin, the less it hurts. My thigh killed, and my shin was a breeze. Ankle was easy, but forearm sucked. It isn't so bad that you would want the artist to stop though. Good luck.

The only tattoo I've gotten so far is on my upper arm. I've heard that it hurts less there than most other places, but I really can't compare it to other areas because I don't have any other tattoos. I can tell you that it really didn't hurt me. It didn't feel good, but it really wasn't that bad at all. It feels like a hot scratching feeling, not too bad at all. My advice would be to not be nervous about it, although I was pretty nervous before I got mine. You get tattooed by a needle, yeah, but remember that it's not a needle like what most people think of, it only penetrates the first one or two layers of skin. howstuffworks.com has a pretty good article about the process. Just research as much as you can on the internet, knowing as much as you possibly can will help calm you down when you're there getting tattooed, because you'll know what to expect.

It is not to bad on the upper arm all depends how big the tattoo is.
The area starts to get a bit sensitive if you have been getting tattooed 1 or 2 hours. Still it is a breeze compared to the ribcage

Hey artist... I have had the outsides of my biceps tattooed and the closest thing I can compare it to .....it's like having tiny little sparks falling down on you over and over. They go out as soon as they hit the skin...but there's always more of them falling and hitting.. It doesn't hurt so much as it is annoying. The next day (and for about 4 to 6 days later) its going to feel like a sunburn. The key is to relax, listen to music or talk to a friend to distract you. Use the best artist you can find. go to my 360 page and click on the dragon tattoo in my blog,(my secret addiction) My dragon was 12 hours old in that picture...no scabs..no bleeding.
I am doing 8 to 9 hours under the needles this month (getting a tattoo covered) and I'm kinda nervous too so I've been doing my research.....here is the best article I could find on pain as charted by body location

I hope this helps

you shouldnt think about the placing of a tattoo according to how 'painful' it is. otherwise youll end up getting a tattoo in a place you didnt really want it. if you want a tattoo on your upper arm, get it. however, if you had originally invisaged getting this tattoo in another position, get it there instead. you need to understand that tattoos are painful, ANYWHERE. yes, some places will be more painful than others, but its not going to hurt forever, and if you get it somewhere you really want it, you wont regret in it years to come.

I've got a tat on my upper arm and it wraps around. The underside, hurts. But the upper arm didn't hurt to bad. My least painful tat was actually on my tummy, under the bellybutton. Start with something small if it's your first, in case you can't handle it you won't be left with a giant unfinished mess, or have to suffer for to long to finish it. Tats aren't for everybody.

Hi There, Ive got 3 tats on my upper right arm. The main part of the arm is fine, i wouldnt worry about it too much. Depends on how far round your arm you are going, when i got mine it nipped a little when going round side and underneath. Kept hiiting a nerve and made me jump lol, not great when trying to get a tat done!!!!!
Just close your eyes and listen to some music to calm you down.

Yes, the least sensitive place to get a tatto is actually on your shoulder. Tattoos near bone are far more painful. If you are ever considering getting a tattoo on your back and are worried about the pain don't get one on your spine it really hurts.

ir was probably my least painful one.i think cause theres no bones and its just not as sensitive as other parts of the body.they all hurt but that was definetly the best.
