Just a question, if you found a young bird or egg or if a friend gave you one and you had NO OTHER choice but to take it home for the time being, how would you handle the scenario?

Oh dear. OK keep the bird in a warm dark place. Then call a wildlife Rehabilitator or state wildlife agency right away. Do not feed the bird or give it water. Leave it to the professionals they know what there doing and it's safest for the bird that way. Make sure you wash your hands and anything the bird was in contact with. Remember it is against the law in most states to keep wild animals if you don't have permits, even if you plan to release them.

Next time, do not remove the bird or the egg from where you found it.

If it is an egg, most likely it has gotten too cold if it has been out of the nest for too long and it will not hatch. If it is a chick you need to get it to a wildlife rehab so they can raise it properly. If you are in possession of an egg, chick or even a bird feather, you are breaking the law and can be heavily fined or even jailed.

Ok, not a hard question just need to go back to the science book. With a young bird you will need to feed it several times a day. Feed it and keep it warm until it is able to fly. If a wild (outside) bird, don't try to keep it. Let it fly when it is able. Now an egg is a whole different story. You will need to inubate it, it other words keep it warm and moist until it hatches. I will need special foods. Usually the parents will regurgitate food for it. So it will need some baby food, you can find it at the feed store. You will have to feed and water it through an eye dropper several times a day.

You take it to a wildlife shelter/rehab center.

DO NOT REMOVE EGGS OR BIRDS FROM THE WILD!!!!! You keep asking how to take care of a chick and hatch an egg without your parents knowing.

For the sake of the chick/egg/bird, please give up.

Here is a wildlife rehab center in your area http://www.greenpeople.org/searchResults.cfm?memid=1313

Maybe you can volenteer there?
