Did you serve overseas? Where were you, in what branch of service, what conflict?

I joined the Navy in 1981 at the age of 17 because even I knew if I didn't change my ways I wouldn't have made it to 18. In the 7 years I was in there was no "real" war. I did spend 121 days out in the middle of the Indian Ocean on board the U.S.S Ranger because of the conflict we had with Iran. I was also stationed at MCAS Iwakuni,Japan for six months. Iwakuni is approx. 40 miles south of Hiroshima. If I could go anywhere again it would be Japan. I was in from Oct. 1981 to Jan 1989 and I wouldn't have missed it for the world.

I joined initially for economic reason. The unemployment rate was 12 percent (Thanks Jimmy Carter) Lot os jobs had gone away and just coming out of High School it seem'd like something I'd like to try. So I saw a recruiter, picked a job I thought I'd like and he guaranteed me Germany to boot. SO joined the Army and went on a 21 year trip that I would gladly do again, I loved every minute of it.

i'm currently in the airforce and i joined because i needed a challenge in my life. i had a job where i worked at the mall and it got really boring after awhile. i would see all these kids and wondered what i did with my life. i have served overseas in south korea and have been to psab before it closed. i love what i do for my country and wouldn't change it for the world.

I volunteered for the draft to get away from my old man. The Army took me in and made me a man. I spent 16 months in Korea, got to travel around the far east, and saw things I never would have otherwise. A good experience for a young man.
