I recently bought 2 different boxes of henna at an indian grochery store near my home trying to figure out which to try on my hair. The first is Hesh brand and just says "hesh since 1978 - mehandi powder." the second says "Dulhan deluxe heena powder -famous of marwad." they both say 100% henna. But then I was reading on other websites that said they can claim it is 100% and still contain stuff that is bad for your hair (yikes!)

So I wanted to know has anyone out there used either of these brands? Or do you know if they are in fact 100% henna? Or just vote on which I should try haha.

Neutral henna, a green powder that smells like freshly cut grass, is neither henna nor neutral. It is Cassia obovata. Cassia obovata contains anthraquinones, particuarly Chrysophanic acid, a remarkable anti-fungal, anti-microbial and anti-bacterial. Cassia obovata doesn't color hair. It will help damaged hair, make hair full, glossy, healthy.

Red henna, a green powder that smells like hay, is Lawsonia inermis, commonly known as henna. The leaves of the henna plant have a red-orange dye molecule, Lawsone, a napthaquinone. Henna will stain your hair red-orange; but this stain is translucent and will combine with your natural color.

Below is the procedure of making natural henna.

1. Assemble Supplies
• Fresh Henna Powder, 20 grams or 1/4 Cup
• Fresh Lemon Juice
• Plastic Bowl
• Spoon
• Sugar
• Plastic Wrap

2. Pour 20 grams or 1/4 of fresh henna powder into a plastic bowl.

3. Add 1/4 cup of strained fresh lemon juice.

4. Stir the henna powder and lemon juice until they are completely mixed together and no lumps of dry henna powder remain. The paste will be thick, similar to toothpaste or mashed potatoes.

5. Add 1.5 teaspoons sugar. Also add Cajeput, Tea Tree and Ravensara. Mix the ingredients thoroughly. The paste will become smooth and silky.

6. Cover the paste with plastic wrap. Press the plastic wrap against the surface of the paste expelling any air pockets.

7. Let the paste sit in a warm place, around 75 ° to 85° Fahrenheit/24° to 29° Centigrade, for 24 hours to allow the dye to be released out of the henna leaves so it will stain your skin deeply and as strong as possible.
