Has anyone gotten off of Lexapro before? How did you feel?

I was only on Lexapro for about a month, after about 4 years of taking Paxil . After discontinuing it , I felt fairly well, at least for awhile. As time went by, I only had minor "whooshes" and "zaps", and really no digestive trouble, but after about a month, I became TERRIBLY suicidal; everything was sad, no matter what it was. I must have written 5 different suicide notes, only to crumble them up a day or so later. I could watch a funny movie and break out into tears. This lasted about 3 months. After the 3 mos, the crying spells started to decrease, after about 6 mos, they were almost non-existent. Make sure you follow proper step-down suggestions if you're going to quit! SSRI's are very powerful, and your brain will need to take the proper steps to re-adjust.

Everyone has a unique chemistry. So do be 100% - noone knows except you.
However, there are common experiences among other people. When I took Lexapro it messed me up big time. I've take a lot of different anti-deps etc, but that may have been part of what led me to be hospitallized.
You could say I felt tons better without it. However, make sure you consult whatever Dr prescribed it before you go off of it please.

I was on 10 mg of Lexapro.

I just cut it down to 5 mg for a week.

Then the next week I stopped it.

I didn't really have any problems with going off it.

Now I'm on 5 mg Abilify and 100 mg Lamictal. (Still working on medication management though.)

I was very down in the dumps after gradually getting off of Lexapro. After a period of time I had to start taking it again. I was too sad all the time.
