If a dog is chasing you, try:

1) First, ignore them. This method works with most dogs, and I use it on all dogs that are far enough away.

2) Second, if the dog is close when you encounter it, talk to the animal. Sometimes, I am friendly, and sometimes I am barking commands; it depends on the dog. This method is also usually successful.

3) Speed up. This worked better when I was younger. Now that I'm an old dog myself, most dogs can catch me.

4) While riding a bike, I kick a biting dog in the mouth. Warning! This can be dangerous to the bike rider a) if your bike handling skills are not good or b) if your shoes are soft. However, I taught at least one dog to never bother me again that way.

5) Stop. Doing so stops many dogs. However, it is what I least want to do.

6) Pick up, or pretend to pick up, a stone or stick. Once they think I have a weapon, most dogs will back off. Some people prefer to use their pump as a pretend weapon.

To disarm most dogs make a kissing sound with your lips and the dog just remembers feeding off Mom and they usually stop in their tracks and start wagging their tail then you back away. It works on most dogs as the highlight of puppy hood is mom's milk.

Try staying away from the dog for starters.

I usually look them dead in the eye and in a low tone of voice tell them to settle down and go home. NEVER run! Never get aggresive. Just be gentle, I am a breeder and know. But eye to eye contact and gentleness, slow movements will help. Then simple tell them go home!

well if it is trying to bite you I would suggest bitter apple(very sour horrible tasting spray) or pepper spray, but caution, this may make the dog make and more liable to bite you ,if it is just following you home and being nice, try and look at the tags and if there arem't any bring it to a NO-KILL animal shelter

No, Don't you listen to those who say "be mean to it." Trust me, that'll make it worse. It'll just make it want more attention from you. Just ignore the dog (you have to be more patient than it is.) and it'll eventually know that you don't want to play, and back off.
