A fabulous bible quote i was made aware of in an answer of a christian to an evolutionary topic.
So, my question is: If "God made them male and female.." i guess meaning one male to reproduce with/love one female.... then
Why are so many types of plant 'monoecious;?
i.e. reproductive units (flowers, conifer cones, or functionally equivalent structures) of both sexes appearing on the same plant;
then we can talk about 'Subandroecious', 'Trimonoecious' and a variety of other strategies wikipedia suggests exists!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plant_sexuality
Oh, then there are asexual insects, self-fertilizing nematodes, and fish that change sex throughout their lives.... did God exclude plants, fish, nematodes and insects from 'making them male and femlae"?
That 99.9% of all multicellular creatures on earth he excluded from His design rule then... and lets not talk about bacteria eh?

erben - "plants and insects are hardly people"
well, like peple, plants and insects are also multicellular Eukaryotes, which are made up of cells which contain mitochondria and golgi apparatus etc.. I would say we are all quite quite similar actually, compared to say Eubacteria.

Having fun - "You are jumping from one species to another. "
That would be because all species including humans are closely allied to each other in a phylogenetic framework - ie all creatures are related to one another. It is only a human construct that humans are unique, and one that people like Darwin introduced many many years ago.
Radical view, i know. (for 1859 that is!)

it says for humans. That passage speaks of divorce. why would you pluck a verse out of its context?
and God said he made all living things (species of organisms) to create after their own kind. He never said everything he created has a male part and a female part for its species. But humans, He did make that way.
oh yeah, GREAT arguement there...

I don't know about plants and other organisms, but I am guessing that God wanted humans to experience the joy of having a lifemate, a companion, and He designed us as male and female sexual beings because He knew we would enjoy being sexual with each other. If we were asexual, where would the fun be in that? I believe that God made us the way we are because He wants us to have this pleasure.

You are jumping from one species to another. when it comes to humans it is one way and only one way according to God and the Bible, which is accurate and good. However when it comes to animals and plant life, things are different and it takes a scientist to tell you about them. God does not deal with plant life or animals that much as far as reproduction. If you can find it in the bible then I will stand corrected, but I know that it does not. The bible mainly deals with humans. OK ?
Hope that this clears things up a little. ?

If you read and understand my answer to this question (which I answered two just before this one) "Re: Paul the corrupter of Christ:So why do you women not cover your heads when praying? Paul said shame on you."
....you will understand what Jesus was talking about in this scripture Mark 10 1-12. Jesus is obviously contradicting what Moses implied, that a man could indeed divorce his wife. Jesus was trying to confuse these people that were trying to trip up Jesus in his speech, knowing that Moses allowed divorce, but that obviously Jesus did not condone it. So then, the people who read this also get confused, so is divorce okay or not? Is Jesus contradicting Moses? Or as you are saying it is also contradictory because there are a-sexual animals and plants. But the point Jesus is making is again a parable like he always used to get across a strong message. He comes not to destroy Moses' law, but to fulfill it. He comes to help us understand what it means to be male and female in one flesh. If you read further in the chapter Jesus says the male and female are not only to be joined but to be ONE flesh. Talk about a contradiction. Not only is Jesus saying they are male and female but they are ONE flesh. How many married couples do you know that are actually the same flesh as ONE PERSON (ONE FLESH)? I don't know any here as earthly creatures. So these contradictions we are speaking of should tell us something. There has to be a different meaning than just the carnal outward appearance of the scriptures. Again, the parable Jesus is using as his way of confusing these people and creating a mystery that only those willing to see can see, those who no longer see carnally. It is all spiritual. In the beginning, he did create us male and female. Then in Chapter two of Genesis, something extraordinary happened, the female came out of the male and they were no longer one flesh. Only made to someday become one flesh again. Our soul represents our female aspect and our spirit (christ) represent our male aspect. These are to be joined in union within us, in ONE flesh, not two people. So Jesus does not condone us divorcing Christ (him), which has little to do with what Moses was talking about when he mentioned divorce.

Yes, He excluded them. Humans were created by God as intelligent beings that have souls, which is true of only us humans, not animals, plants, bacteria, or anything else. So, yeah, He did exclude other creatures from many things that humans have, not only the male/female qualities of them.

If you could explain just what plants and fish have to do with human sexuality, I would be glad to answer.
No, surely, don't want any bacteria involved in this.

the Bible does not say God created men on other planets either, what if there are really life on out there ? To me, what really matters is that God really exists.

Actually sex is a fairly recent biological innovation, it takes lots of energy to have sex (in a technical sense that is).
