I would like to personally apologize for all those who are verbally attacking you. The martial arts are about combat education, not personal vendettas and angry judgment. Your question seems to be out of genuine curiosity to me, as you haven't stated an intent to own a pair or that you already own any. I will answer all of your questions in the order asked and then add my own comments,
Brass Knuckles are a thick, flat piece of metal shaped like
this-> B but with multiple "holes" for 4 of the fingers on your fist.
I'm not sure if the purpose is to make one to look "tough" so much as to assist one in breaking another person's face. The stigma (or feeling) attached to a person who whips out some Brass Knuckles is usually one of cruelty, rage, or desperation.
The back of the knuckles (the flat part of the "B") go in your palm, and the metal bumps or ridges (the bumpy part of the "B") go over your fingers, as each finger fits through the holes of the knuckles. You then proceed to make a normal fist with the Brass Knuckles firmly rooted in your hand.
As I have now answered your questions I must say that owning a pair of Brass Knuckles is not a very good idea. There are plenty of easy to carry/conceal LEGAL self-protection weapons. So please be careful.

Not the brightest one eh? Well... if you really want to, get something like thick heavy pad lock or whatever. Put your hand around it and punches someone. It will not do same damage as brass knuckles, but it will definitely hurt way more than without any weight in the hand. However be prepare for a trip to hospital for xray, you probably will break few fingers or your hand that way.

Knucks are dangerous not only to the person being attacked with them but to the attacker. I don't know about you guys, but if I see someone pull some Knucks on me, I'll probably get so damned mad I'll try to kill them. It's an insult, just like having a knife pulled on you.
remember, if you pull a knife or knucks on someone, you HAD BETTER be preparred to use them or they WILL bite you in the tail. You may encounter someone with a more powerful will to survive than you and they will take them from you and put them in a very uncomfortable place.
You can indeed kill someone with brass knuckles....quite easily, if you hit them right and with the right amount of power. And you can infact go to PRISON for many many years just for owning them.

They are about 10 to 20 years for felony possession just for having them on your person, and 40 to life for attempted murder if you hit some with them. Brass Knuckles are a serious and deadly weapon, that if I'm not mistaken are illegal in most if not all states.

Simple...
Brass knuckles are an illegal weapon.
If you want to learn how to use them, talk to somebody
who's serving 15-35 years in the pokey for using them!
