Any tips for shooting say a cityskyline at night with a Canon Rebel XT with a 55-200mm lens? i've tried with a slow shutter speed and all i get are blurs.

o yeah if i set my shutter speed higher than 1/13th of a second i dont get any light at all

It doesn't really matter of the type or brand of the dSLR you're getting. It all depends on the lens. If you get the basic lens kit that comes with a dSLR, you have the 18-55mm, which is decent but you'll probably want to get better lens in the future. You'll probably have to change the ISO to the highest to shoot without flash. To get the most out of night shooting from a dSLR without using flash, you'll want to read up on f-stop/aperture since those affect lighting. A lower f-stop like 1.4 allows more light to come in. A higher ISO is also used for darker places. I have a Canon Rebel XTi. But the Sony camera you mention sounds like a good deal.

Most important is a good tripod, and a slow shutter speed. If you don't have a remote control for your camera, then use your cameras self timer. Good luck.
