And Baboons survived but only one species of their cousin Hominids when we all evolved from a common ancestor. I'm sorry I just love rubbing it in. Now how many condemnations can I get from this? I know, Wheres your proof? Why the DNA of course.

DNA similarities only prove a common designer not a common ancestor. Your argument is like saying that a Chevy Corvette "evolved" from a Camaro. Sure they have a lot of similarities and they may have the same engine and transmission and four tires and a steering wheel but one didn't "become" the other over time. Intelligent designers found that certain parts worked best for certain functions and included them in various designs.

Of course an automobile or even a spacecraft is far less complex in design than a single cell that is self fueling, self replicating and self repairing. If you really think that all of that came about by random chance then you ought to really research the matter.

Is your point that there are no other living species of Hominids alive today? It is not clear from your question what you are asking/saying.

If so, it has been often argued that neanderthal man interbred with modern sapiens, and before that forms like Homo erectus interbred with the neanderthal-spaiens stock lineage. So, interbreeding of slightly different formed hominids removed the morphological variety. Else, modern sapiens just killed off the other forms as they were close competitiors of resources like food and shelter. I dont think ancient man had too much competition with the plant eating gorillas for food, but modern africans are now competing for land with gorilas, so maybe they will become extict soon too, much like the other Hominid species.

Or, call me radical, but there was probably never a wide diversity of hominid species. Most hominids are described from a tiny fraction of skull or jaw, and evey scientist who discovers a bit of Hominid bone seems keen to describe a new species when few if any deserve to be called something different. If hominid diversity was never present, it was never lost.

Then there is DNA of course.... what?

The Great Apes: Chimps, Orangutans and Baboons
were NOT direct competition with our food source - so we did not feel threatened, therefore we did not wipe them off the Earth. Nothing is more dangerous than human. Any animal that was is dead, and the few that are alive, are very remote usually: sharks, polar bears. The Americas were cleared of all dangerous animals - we have free reign here.
We fear only the leopard, and wolf out of millions of animals. We needed caves - the cave bear is extinct.
We needed help we domesticated the dog, horse, cow, pig, etc. The whole world over.
We are killers, as you pointed out, very good ones.

No.

Hundreds of primate species have gone extinct.

Your question has no more relevance than asking why any species go extinct since all life shares a common microbial ancestor.

Probably because hominids were in more competition with other things, and failed. Of course, my anthropology is rusty as hell, so don't take my thoughts.

I love you! We are the all-singing, all-dancing crap of the world! You've got some good genes, we'll have to pass them on some time.

Humans were the nastiest of our branch and killed off the competition. With a little luck we won't kill ourselves off to boot.
