Most vets say 6 months old is the right time. Congrats on your pup and being so responsible! : )

Technically, your dog can be spayed as young as 2 months. The poster before who said that as soon as they reached 2 pounds they could be spayed is wrong- some dogs are 2 pounds when they are BORN. I always reccomend spaying around 6 months, depending on the breed. I don't reccomend ever altering a female dog before 6 months of age, regardless of the breed, because female dogs have slower bladder development than male dogs. Dogs that are spayed too early often have a problem with "piddling," which is urinating a little when they're excited or scared. It also effects dogs when they are older, and often times a female who is spayed too early becomes incontinent at a young age. It's always best to avoid her going into heat before the spay, and different types of breeds go into their first head at different times: In general, smaller breeds will go into heat between 4 and 7 months of age. Larger breeds come later, from 5-8 months. This is just a general rule however, as every dog is different. But regardless, this is a perfect time to spay your dog.

You will get different opinions from different vets. Most of the shelters alter puppies at around 8 weeks. So it all depends. Also it is a myth that a dog needs to go into at least one heat before being spayed. That is not necessary at all. I would say 6 months is a good age to have a dog altered.

Yes 6 months old is the perfect time to spay her. Talk to your vet and arrange to spay her as soon as possible.

Congratulations on your puppy and thank you for being a responsible dog owner and spaying your dog.

yes-- you can spay her now! do not wait until she is older-- the spay is much easier with less complications the younger she is.
now is the perfect time.
most "high-volume" low cost spay and neuter clinics are actually the best bet because the price is right-- but more importantly the veterinarain is much more experienced at it because they do it all day long and usually hundreds a week (as opposed to a vet in private practice).
be sure to interveiw your surgeon and ask them questions on their experince, etc. Ask numbers and time out of school. That way you will know if they are a "new" graduate with little experience-- or a experinced surgeon who is used to high volume spay/neuter (typical numbers are hundreds a week with at least a few years experience).

6 months is a great age. You can wait to 9 months. After 9 months, if you haven't spayed her yet, she could be put at a higher risk for ovarian cancer.

ANYTIME is the best time to spay her. She will be coming into heat soon and if you can get it done before that then you and the dog will be better off

Six months is an excellent age. When you consult the vet, though, they will let you know whether or not she is ready. Good luck!
