there are a several of thought patterns on this one:
(1) she loves the poodle because it is non-critical, non-judgemental, doesn't spend time away from her and her need to feel important and loved; and it loves her unconditionally. No matter how late she gets in, the poodle is delirous to see her. No matter her mood, the poodle makes her happy because it places no demands on her.
(2) transference. where her feelings for you are transferred to the dog because something in her relationship with you doesn't make her feel safe.
(3) she simply goes ga-ga over the dog because it really is number one in her life, in which case, it's time for some counseling for the TWO of you sans the poodle.
(4) finally, if you are truly jealous of the poodle, perhaps that is the real trigger here. It isn't that the dog really "has something you don't have" but rather her acceptance of the fact that in some way your relationship has gone to the dogs.
And it doesn't neccessarily mean it is your fault. She may simply be an animal lover who can't express the same depth of feeling to people.

Maybe she loves animals more then she loves people in general. There are a lot of people out there that are like that. But, maybe her poodle gives her more happiness then you do. Maybe the dog is more loyal, loving, non judgmental, easy going, willing to go out, just an all around fun dog. Maybe she would love to go out with you but you are too busy, too tired, not interested. That little dog is probably paying more attention to her then you ever did. There are a lot of reasons and I hope you make some resolutions-or, you will be the one in the dog house.

Your dog has what my little westie has, unconditional love . Dogs don't ask for much except a little food and attention. I am the same way with my dog but my wife understands. If your not close to your dog , get another one that you can become close to .
Or get a cat or a hamster, or a rabbit, or a potbellied pig. Go to the shelter and find a new friend but don't ever make yourself comparable with one of your animals .

Do you Love her unconditionally? Do you get up to greet her every time she comes home...and am so happy to see her ? Do you think she is terrific even if her hair is a mess, clothes a wreck, and looks like something the cat dragged in ? Do you want to play with her and cuddle with her ? Do you feel content to just stay by her side ? Do you make her feel good about herself? Do you ask expect a little from her , but are willing to give a lot ?Do you let her be herself and not try to change her ? get it

Don't be upset - she loves you too that's why she's married you. You can do this little test - turn your attention to the dog and see how she reacts. Maybe, you will love the dog more than her? Smile.

She lied. =D
I always play with my husband that way ^^ I say I love something else that's supposed to be less important more than him. Then he pouts and frowns...Then I hug, kiss, and play with him ^^ Sheer enjoyment ^^
