If it's a Windsor motor, it's similar. Problem is, nothing will fit. The 289 has a diffferent deck height, main journal diameter, and head bolt diameter. The 289 heads could be drilled out, but other than the cam and front cover, nothing else will fit. If you use the cam, remember that the firing order is different, but it will still line up with a 351 crank firing order. You'll just have to change the order on the distibutor, which also won't fit. If you have factory exhaust manifolds they may fit. Oil pan won't even fit. If you have anything but a Windsor, nothing will fit. Sorry, sad but true.

You have a problem apparently you do not know for sure which 351 Engine you have....
There is a 351 Cleveland which is a totally different engine family.. some parts within a family interchange or fit like ... the cylinderheads, cam and lifters etc.
There is a 351 Modified which is simular yet different to the Cleveland but also extremely different from your 289...
Then therse is the 351 Winsor, the 289, 302, and the 351 Windsor are from same family and so parts like heads, cam and lifeters may interchange and fit fine...
often parts from a larger engine family member are modified to make them work... this is frequently done with crankshafts to build what is called a "stroker" due to longer than factory stroke..
if your valve covers match up you can use the parts if not no

If it is a 351W, then the only thing that will fit will be the heads and valve covers and other sheetmetal parts. The intake manifolds are different, the accessory brackets are different, and the headers (exhaust manifolds) more than likely will not fit your vehicle properly due to the heads being higher and wider apart. Also depending on the years of the motors, the damper could be different, the flywheel/flexplate could be balanced differently, and the distributor is different as well due to the higher deck height of the 351W block.

Unfortunatly, ford really sucks when it comes to parts interchangability. Odds are not in your favor here. Best advice I can give you is to look, measure, look again and pray. Besides that, getting EVERYTHING you can with the 351 so you'll have as many "options" available to you as you try to reinstall items. Having some skill in fabrication will serve you well too. Good Luck!
