My grandfather was a pharmacist's - mate in the Navy. He always used baking soda for heartburn.

My daughter has successfully treated her heartburn/acid reflux with raw celery.

soda crackers or pretzels are very good for it (alkaline to counteract the acid)
and plain water (dilutes the stomach acid)
any calcium supplements on hand ?
Milk, or ice-cream, or yogurt, or cheese

I always drink milk to help my heartburn. Maybe you should try that.
