I think best the camera in your price range is the Canon Powershot A540. You can find it "everywhere" for about $170. I've recommended this camera within my own family, so I'll be living with the results of this recommendation right along with you. You can use the rest of your budget to buy a decent memory card.

Go here and read an extensive review:

Check the sample images, too.

This will blow your mind. The A530 is now discontinued, but it was the "little brother" to the A540.

Canon just introduced the A550, which has more pixels, but offers less user control. I'd be happy with the A540.

You will need to add a memory card and I suggest the Sandisk or Lexar brand in any speed. You will spend from about $20 for a 512 KB card, which is perfectly adequate, to about $40 for a Sandisk Ultra II, which is as good as you'd ever want for this or many other cameras.

None.

Sorry, digital cameras seem to have a miniium of a $250 for a decent camera. I would recommond the Canon A630 if you want a good camera for $300. It takes great imagines buts its not a pocket camera but its small and light. If you want a pocket camera theres the SD600, its an amazing little camera for $250 that seems to not stop selling. Its a really good camera just that the imagine quality is not as good as the A630 because of sensor size but the SD600 beats out most pocket size camera imagine quality.

I'm not a big fan of Sony but the Cybershot DSCW50 seems to be a good option for $205.00.

But you may want to check out the Canon PowerShot SD600, which costs $200.00 from CircuitCity, and is the better choice. I would pick this over the Sony camera.

I've included links below from Amazon, and reviews from Cnet.

Get a Canon and get a Camera at BH Photo. BH Photo sells cameras cheap and some with special kits. This is aprofessional website based in New York and is not a scam.

canon powershots are handsdown the best point-and-shoot digital cameras that have been coming out for the past few years.
(and you can definitely get a nice one for under $200)
Go to http://www.pricegrabber.com and search for
"canon powershot sd600"
you can get one for about $210 with shipping. Or, just search canon "powershot" and get one of the lower models- they're all good.
The "elphs" are smaller, if that's what you're looking for.

*pricegrabber's a cool website. it's a center for a lot of online businesses, where you can compare different products and compare different sellers who sell them
