Could someone give me some background information on a 1974-1978 Mustang?

I just want to know the average horsepower for a standard 74'-78' Mustang, and all the other specs. Are they worth buying?

Ford introduced the Mustang II in 1974, billed as the right car at the right time...It measured 7 inches shortere than the original 1965 model and was a full 13 inches shorter than its predicessor the 1973..

sales were slow and sluggish at first because fors loaded them with a lot of optional equipment vs standard equipment...

Also for 74 only the 4 cylinder and V6 were offered and this was bound not to have gone over so well in light of its former hi-performance image...

Ghia versions were offered to give a luxury Italian styling flare to the Mustang in a notch styled roof..

it wasn't until 76 when Ford released the Cobra II optiion with a 302 V8 that interest picked up a little..

something that help a little with Ford sales acrossed the board this year was the TV Series "Charlies Angels" featured the girls driving Ford products... Farrah Faucetts character drove a white Cobra II with blue stripes...

if you were to buy one as an investment or collector car my advise is this...

try to find the 77 or 78 versions with the V8 302 (also I believe a few of the King Cobras may have had the 351 Winsor) and focus on those that match dealer promotional ads Paint scheme, graphics pinstripes and color...

(a car authenticated by the factory thru a letter verifying correct VIN and that it was used in a promo photo shoot) can make that particular car woth $125.000-$150,000

Also by the later years King Cobra's were also offered most of these were Black & Gold, but all king cobras are very rare in mustang II version, an original non black and gold authenticated King Cobra would be a true find.

because this was during the gas crunck one of the books I use for reference no longer gives HP ratings for the engines etc...heavy focus was on MPG then...

Standard hp was very low due to the strict emmision standards that came out in the 70s. The V8 cars actually have the same basic drivetrain as an older 60s Mustang. I have owned 3 of them and still have 2 (although one is being used for parts for the other since sheetmetal and special parts are hard to come by.) Here are a couple sites with some good info:

Rick is real. My 'seventy six Cobra II has needed an excellent style of mechanical factors and that i've got discovered that almost no person ingredients after marketplace something for them. I have been given my aluminum racing radiator off Ebay and had to go by measurements as a replace of application (ended up with a Fairmont radiator). while raiding the junk yards, all Mustang II physique factors will interchange. i might prefer to discover some chrome bumpers off a various 3 hundred and sixty 5 days that i ought to change like Foose does (trim for tight extra healthy). i don't look after the plastic bumpers. sturdy success!
