Any dog can be good with babies...However...it depends on the owners the most...how well does ur dog listen to u...are u pack leader..or does ur dog walk u down the street?? what is the dogs temperment? does it scary easy..not like hair pulled? growl over u by it food or treats or well at anyone one for any reason????? these are not good signs they can be worked with but it needs to start well before baby comes...

if u want a pup...then u must realize labs need lots of exersize and things to do or else u will have the classic hyper lab look at any shelter in the usa and i'm sure u will find the lab that was not trained jumping aroung like its on springs. and i don't think that would be good either....as they are hard headed sometimes and need lots of training from day one....well in to atlest 2 yrs of a pups life..and labs don't lose the puppy side until they are about 3...
few good dogs are born but most take ur time to train and exersize it proberly. to be its leader and best friend.

A well trained lab, is WONDERFUL around babies. I have an almost 3 year old male lab (will b 3 in april) and a 6 month old nephew, who we watched quite a bit when he was a newborn, and he did not bother him at all. I also raised my niece from a newborn and he did not bother her either. He just like to sniff the babies, and when they would move, he would just look at them. If the lab is a puppy, i would advise suprevised encounters until the pup knows that the baby is part of the family and is not going anywhere. Labs are wonderful pets, my 7 yr old son rides our lab like a horse and he lets him, no nipping, growling, or anything. Any dog is not fully matured until they are 2 years old.

It depends on the age of your lab. A lab doesn't really reach maturity until around 2-3 years. Not all labs are like this, you may have a very mellow and well behaved lab that won't bother the baby. Make sure you prepare the dog before the introducing the baby. And never leave them alone just to be on the safe side.

Labs, from what I understand, are very sweet dogs. I don't see any reason why your lab won't be OK around the baby. Introduce the baby to the dog very carefully and then watch the dog very carefully when baby and dog are around each other. You will probably find that the lab will feel very protective around your little one, so make sure friends and family that are not living in your home are careful around the baby with the dog around. He/she might try to bite or attack them.

Generally, yes. But don't listen to anyone's advice about what dogs are good around whom. You need to assess your own situation, because just like all people are different, all dogs are different as well, and they will react differently in any situation. Personally, I would not leave any baby or young child unsupervised with any dog. Labs are known to be loyal to their owners and protective, and often times, dogs realize that a baby is a helpless being and that they cannot "play rough" and such, but even as this is true, there are things on the news all the time where babies and children are hurt by their "beloved family pet" who had never hurt a fly in his life. A baby is a helpless, human life, and it is your job to protect him or her from any legitimate or potential threat, and as much as you may love and trust your dog, you must watch them together, at all times. This is not to say that you shouldn't let them interact, or that your child shouldn't be allowed to play with the dog when he or she gets a little older, this is all fun, healthy stuff, but supervision is key.

A lot depends on the individual dog, not so much the breed.

You should NEVER, EVER, EVER leave any dog alone with a baby. You never know what the baby might inadvertently do to provoke the dog (grab its ear, make a funny noise, etc.) or what the dog might think of the baby.

By all means familiarize the dog with the baby so they can be buddies--but supervise them very closely whenever they are together.

Good luck!

That depends-is she a loving dog, or on the mean side? I have a black Lab who is the biggest of my 6 dogs, and she's the sweetest and humblest of them all. My smallest dog is my meanest, of all things! So, just depends on how well, she was trained and treated when you were raising it.

My boys grew up with labs, and they were wonderful together. Even better were my Great Danes. It depends on the individual dog, not on the breed.

depends how well trained your dog is. its best to keep dogs away from babies, because the might pounce on the baby and try to play with them. the baby could be injured by this
