I was wondering if someone could give me an idea of how big a 0.28 carat diamond is. This is for a engagement ring and I am ordering it without seeing it. Id like a comparison, like the size of an eraser on a pencil, etc. Id like an idea before going through with it. As i dont want something too small or to big. Thanks for your help!!!

This isn't as good; at least I don't think so, but still gives you an idea

Diamond Actual Size

It is definitely smaller than a pencil eraser. A pencil eraser is probably about 1 carat or maybe a little larger. A 0.28 carat diamond is about the size of...well, I can't think of a good comparison. You really should go into a jeweler and ask to see a diamond that is about 1/4 carat in weight so that you can get an idea of what the diamond looks like.

Also, why would you order a diamond without seeing it? That's a really bad idea. There is so much that goes into the quality of a diamond, that you should consider seeing a jeweler and you can probably get a good deal if you find a good, honest jeweler.

Good luck and congrats!

Actual Diamond Size

Unless you know a little about diamonds, I'm not sure I'd order w/o seeing. There's a lot to buying a diamond. I don't know if the diamond you're looking at is round, marquis, oval, princess, emerald cut. These are differenct shapes that diamonds come in. Assuming that it is round, .28 (also called 28 points) carat is considered a 1/4 carat and, depending on the depth, which is also considered in determining the carat, should be about 1/8 of an inch in diameter (maybe just over 1/8"). You should also consider the quality of the diamond. I've seen some pretty ugly diamonds. A good diamond should look clear and not cloudy and should have a lot of sparkle. Hope this helps.

It depends on how it is cut, but no it's not very big at all. My ring is .5 carats and it's the size of a pencil eraser. Your probably going to want one a little bigger.

My ring is about a 1/3 carat diamond, and I love it. It is definitely smaller than a pencil eraser, but if you go for a good quality diamond, it will shine every bit as bright as a huge diamond. :o) You might try this website for more info on how to choose a diamond: http://www.diamondhelpers.com/fivesteps/2-diamond-quality.shtml

Good luck! I'm sure she'll say yes!

That is relatively small. Generally 1/2 or .5 carat is not even as big as a pecil eraser A pencil eraser size is usually at least a carat. Bottom line if she loves you, she will love it!

I took a look in my diamond sizing guide, and depending on the proportions of the actual cutting of the gem, the overall size will be approx. 4.1 mm. for a round brilliant cut. Most rulers or tape measures will have mm measurements on them to give you a better idea. My suggestion, make sure you are dealing with a company in good standing. With an untrained eye, many gems can look like diamonds, and be simulants, even really well made ones. Do you know the color and clarity of the diamond? Good luck, and please be consumer saavy.

that's like 1/4 of a pencil eraser, maybe a tad bigger. But if it's good quality you are in good shape!
