What does he have to be jaelous of?

Exodus 20:1 And God spake all these words, saying,
2 I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

The First Commandment forbids idolatry. Man commits idolatry whenever he honors and reveres a creature in place of God, whether this be gods or demons (for example, satanism), power, pleasure, race, ancestors, the state, money, etc.

In the lands that surrounded Israel, there were many who worshiped false gods including the Egyptians. Later the Jews had to deal with the Greek and Roman gods and goddesses worshiped by their Governors and occupying forces.

Today people put many things in front of God in their lives including money, status, self, power, etc.

With love in Christ.

What does God have to be jealous of?

For example, The name "Holy Father" is found only 1 time in the entire Bible and it refers to God. (see John 17:11)

The Catholics are calling the Pope "Holy Father" which name belong only to God.

There is not a single instance in the Scriptures where any title of Holy Father is applied to a man on earth. No apostles, not even Peter was called this.

God to be jealous for another is to love the other above ourselves, to protect the relationship, to be truly committed to the other and to the relationship, in essence, to have a covenant with another as God did with the Israelites and as He does with us.

well, Buddhism would argue that this in one of the fallacies in the western perspective of God. Without using the biblical proof that you did think about this, if God is in fact perfect, how can he be jealous (a negative human emotion). Why does he want to be worshipeed? a truly benevolent god, who is humble, would have no need for the boosting of worshiping. It does not make much sence
