Ten or eleven commandments?

I must have been asleep when "Thou shalt not laugh" was added.

Oh, and by the way, doesn't "no other gods before me" imply, well, other gods?

Good point Marie, and thank you. Actually I meant laugh with, not at. Equally, there is nothing wrong with standing back and having a giggle at yourself or your group when appropriate. Given there is no sin too big to be forgiven, surely it follows there is nothing too serious to laugh about...

Can I just say that when I ask these questions I am trying to make people think, not "having a go" (okay, maybe a good-natured rib!) and certainly not asking for lectures. I can and do read widely, and in most instances already have a fair understanding of what the Bible says on this or that issue. What I'm interested in is what people think and feel, not proof that they can regurgitate chapter and verse.

There are only 2 commandments that Jesus gave us to follow. Not that anyone is, but I thought I'd remind everyone.
Everyone is following the O.T. and that's fine - to a point.
As to:
"Oh, and by the way, doesn't "no other gods before me" imply, well, other gods?" - As uneducated person - I'd say that as GOD cares for us, helps us - the other gods are truely unimportant and deserve to be ignored and forgetten. Not that I know about gods or GOD - I am who I am - a little human in California, trying to live as best I can. But I try to follow what Jesus said, and that's all I can.

When you say "Thous shalt not laugh," are you laughing AT someone in church? Or, is there something funny going on? Makes a difference.

And, for the other "Thou shalt not have no other gods before me," means no idol worship- that includes money and fame.

"No other gods before Me" implies that people are stupid and make up their own gods such as materialism, Moon god, allah, golden calves. There is only God.

"no other gods before me" simply means that you should not make anything or anyone more important than God, anything that you make more important than Him is considered a "god" in the sence that you are "worshipping" it/them with your thoughts, time, &/or money rather than giving those things to the one true God.

Well in the Bible; there were many gods.; gods can be images, idols, or anything that places God.

For example: The Catholic Church has idols(things made out of stone; sometimes pictures) they worship or bow down to; they make it more important than God.

Exodus 23:24 = "Thou shalt not bow down to their gods, nor serve them, nor do after their works: but thou shalt utterly overthrow them, and quite break down their images."

Exodus 32:3,4,8 = broken off their golden earrings and gave them to Aaron which in turn fashioned a molten calf--which they worshipped and sacrificed to. (god calf)

Exodus 33:4-6 = "And when the people heard these evil tidings, they mourned: and no man did put on him his ornaments. For the Lord had said unto Moses, Say unto the children of Israel, Ye are a stiffnecked people: I will come up into the midst of thee: therefore now put off the ornaments from thee, that I may know what to do unto thee. And the children of Israel stripped themselves of their ornaments by the mount Horeb."

Dan.3:5 -18 = golden image that Nebuchadnezzar set up wanted people to bow to. Only three didn't bow or worship image; names were Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. God saved these men.
