I'm going to guess your spouse was recently diagnosed? If so, get a second opinion, then a third. Bipolar disorder is often over diagnosed and the sad thing about it is that when one is diagnosed with bipolar, they are told they must stay on meds for the rest of their lives, but a lot of people with 'bipolar disorder' don't really need medication! Of course, bipolar disorder when it happens is very real and can be very serious this is why a second and third opinion is good.

Anyways, your basic google searches for 'bipolar disorder' will help you with what you need. If you need more information, get it straight for the horses mouth, that is your spouses practioners (with permission from spouse of course) and spouse.

There's a lot of good info posted, and this is a bit outside your question, but I hope your spouse is getting counseling in addition to the meds, and it helps if you go with him sometimes so you can work as a team.

www.beyondblue.com.au is an Australia website that deals with all types of mental illness. I know it can be very hard for you, I have bipolar and I see things from my thinking, it may be different to other peoples, we as bipolar people have to learn to think rationally. Although we already think we do.
