Well in Ireland anyway the police won't enter a house forcibly, which sounds like what happened, unless they have been granted a permission order from the local courts. This is only granted in the event of suspicion of quite serious crimes! I would imagine terrorism, drug trafficking, possession of firearms, etc. But this is pure speculation! The police were only searching and they may even have the wrong house!

It could have been for serious crime or he may have previous for violence and the crime not being so important the safety of the officers was in question.
