If Adam and Eve didn't know the difference between good and evil before they ate from the Tree of Knowledge, why did God punish them?

Is knowledge evil that God would want to keep it from us? Why did God want to keep us from gaining knowledge? Did he want to keep us subservient slaves groveling under his feet? It seems to me that we owe Satan thanks and worship for his help. Satan seems rather like the Titan Prometheus, who in defiance of the orders of the gods brought man the knowledge of fire. For this service to man, Prometheus like Satan was subjected to torment and torture for all eternity. Certainly human life would be worth a great deal less that it is without love, fire and knowledge.

Adam and Eve's sins were "covered" by the animal sacrifices until Christ came. Then all those who followed God in the light given to them in the prescribed way of coming to Him during the Old Testament years, had their sins washed away retrospectively from Calvary. Just as we look back to Calvary, they looked forward - through the animal sacrifices that represented the sinless, spotless Lamb of God. And yes, I believe Adam and Eve were forgiven and carried from paradise compartment up into heaven after the Resurrection of Jesus.

Everyone who died before Jesus had the opportunity to be saved because he preached to all the dead, including Adam & Eve. Besides they had plenty of time to repent because they lived to be almost 1000 years old.

God punished Adam & Eve because he told them not to eat from that one tree and they did anyway. God did not want to keep them knowledge because knowledge is a good thing. He was just like any good parent who didn't want their children to know about the evil in the world. But remember God knew everything and he knew they would eat from that tree after he told them not to. He knew they were going to disobey him at some point. He allowed sin to come in the world to make life hard for us so we could become strong and become perfect one day like him.

God uses what he has to work with for our good. He had Satan, Adam & Eve's disobedience, and sin to work with and he is still using it to perfect humankind. He intends for every person ever created to be saved and he will accomplish just that.

Adam and Eve were perfect and without sin when they ate of the forbidden fruit. What this means is that they made a concious CHOICE to sin. This is different from the sin that is committed by imperfect people. Jesus died to make possible forgiveness of sin based in imperfection - not sin that was committed by someone perfect.

When Adam and Eve partook of the forbidden fruit of the tree of knowledge, they transgressed against god. However that transgression was not a sin. Before they had partaken of the fruit they had no sense of what right or wrong was, therefore they were not accountable for their actions. Furthermore it is logical to believe that after their departure from the Garden of Eden they prayed and asked for forgiveness from god.

well Jesus died as the Final Sacrifice so that there would be no more of sacrificing the lambs...and that we may all go to Heaven through Him. adam and eve were not around when Jesus died.....they couodve gone to Heaven if they didnt know any better....but if they did then maybe not. ur sins are not forgiven unless u ask. see, before Jesus died....u could ask for ur sins to be forgiven....but that wasnt all u had to sacrifice a lamb. but now all we have to do is ask...and MEAN IT. and Jesus is the Final Sacrifice....for everyone.

They have been forgiven but not for the exact reason that you give. They have been forgiven because they believed God when He told them that one of their descendents would defeat the work of the serpent/devil.

Genesis 3:15 I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel."

People in the O.T. were saved by faith just like people now are saved by faith.

Romans 4:2 For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God. 3 For what does the Scripture say? "Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness."

Ephesians 2:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

He died for all sins but you must accept his forgivness. In 1 Peter it says that Jesus preached the gospel to the dead so Adam and Eve might have been forgiven or they might not have been. I guess we wont know until we are in Heaven

Yes, they are in Heaven righ now I bet. They were kicked out because of sin. Jesus didn't come to earth until about 2000 years ago. They were forgiven, but had to take the punishment by being kicked out of the Garden of Eden.

They are forgiven. Adam and Eve are the first people on earth. Jesus came about hundreds of years later.
