By removing religion from all each countries legislation... I am a Christian and do believe in the 'word' but when we are seeing now how dangerous the world becomes when we combine governments with religion.

Live a peaceful life but if someone points a gun, shoot first.

It also isn't useful to be necessarily anti-war. People living under persecution might welcome war and bear the cost, and people under relentless attack need support.

In the bigger picture disarmament is unrealistic. Start smaller: hostile charters, grenades, contentious deployments, tyranny. Peace requires unified leadership on all sides, that are disposed to peace and fairness. You can't start with the big stuff because it is a too sudden exposure to vulnerability. Inevitably if conflict is to end without a clear victor there has to be an understanding from all parties that peace is more valuable than recent history. That comes both from the masses and the leaders, from a never-ending dialogue. You have to accept reality, which is wars happen and people die, and you have to encourage peace and dialogue credibly among the top brass and the masses.

Don't be just "left-wing" or "right-wing" or you get caught up in all kinds of pointless arguments. Don't be a zealot, be calm but show your conviction. And when people aren't calm, remember you're not a messiah, it may just be that some people not willing to have peace are beyond reason, and their point of view may be valid, and their opponents may believe themselves forced to fight their corner too, and maybe someone has to give up their gripe or face defeat. Don't equate all parties, if someone's clearly being a dick, that someone is responsible for what they do and the resistance they meet. Make that clear.

You can't impose perfection. Communists thought they could bring equality but in the end they had to crush dissent to make the big system work. Capitalists believe production should bring rewards for everyone, but end up fighting over resources and for allies. Reagan told Gorbachev it would be easier to make peace between the USSR and the USA if there were an enemy coming from outer space (but that wouldn't quite be world peace). So you have to use your own good judgement and focus on your own sphere of influence. Choose goodwill over frustration and cynicism every time. The world might never be perfect and then, maybe it is. Don't be angry and bitter. Shrug.

Be credible, flexible and creative.

Smile. Mother Teresa said peace begins with a smile.

The only way to achieve peace is to make it a more attractive alternative to war and discord. Now how do you do that ? Education and reduction of poverty are the important ways to achieve that goal. People who are ignorant can be led about by almost any charismatic leader. People who are desperate are the fodder for despots. How to you educate people ? How do you raise the standard of living ? It is being done in India and China right now and with very different methods and results. China still is politically repressed but that will change. China is also far less militarily aggressive than it was 30 years ago. India is not so politically repressed but it still is a very bad place to be a woman but that will also change if they continue on the path to prosperity and education.

First, you need to define what you mean by peace.

Is it the cessation of hostilities? There are two ways to accomplish that, lose or win. So which is it you wish for to win or to lose. The term is nebulous and should not be used since peace cannot be achieved. There will always be hostilities. In the Middle East this has been going on almost since the beginning of man and will probably continue until man is gone from this planet. You cannot eat your cake and have it too.

"Wherever you find a Communist, you find an advocate of peace. "Peace" is one of the golden words of their vocabulary. They have "peace" movements of every kind; they have peace campaigns, peace prizes, peace conferences, peace processions. Every Communist is a devotee of peace." http://www.schwarzreport.org/yct/01ycttc.htm

World peace will never be achieved. World conflicts are at an all time high and have escalated exponentially over the last 100 years. Its a nice idea sure, but it will NEVER be a reality, mark my word.

We can't, because no one person/nation can control every other person. I think the internet will have a positive influence toward making the world more peaceful. We have more news sources and ways of communicating with others of all backgrounds then ever. As we see each other as people with the same feelings and needs, we are less likely to see each other as subhuman or enemies. The television news showing the brutality of racism greatly influenced public opinion about tolerating bigotry. Reporting on child abuse, battered women, gay bashing, animal cruelty, religious intolerance, human trafficing etc. has led to the creation of laws to prevent such atrocities. People in general are good, if they are able to have their basic needs met and empathize with others they do not resort to violence. The greatest enemies of peace are ignorance and life threatening poverty. Education about history and other cultures is one way to combat violence and bring us closer to world peace.

Stop discrimination, and spread true knowledge.
Also, if the world unites for a common cause, such as habitating Mars or, yeesh, fighting off a hostile alien race, maybe we can learn we don't have to fight each other, and when everyone works together, so much more can be done. Think about all the money poured into war, when it could go to the needy or towards scientific advancement.
I think it's humanity's destiny to unite as the planet "Earth", instead of stupidly fighting one another. Hopefully someday ^_^

World peace can only be achieved if people discourage their respective governments from engaging wars with other countries. Disputes must be settled amicably through negotiations or arbitrations and not the use of force.

It starts within our own hearts. It means experiencing what peace feels like to you as an individual. Once you have that feeling, it is in reaching out to others in tolerance and understanding--two of the most difficult things to achieve.

Since rival tribes of creatures from apes to ants regularly make war on one another, I doubt we can achieve world peace even if we all left.

Separate the parties involved in a conflict, wait for tensions to cool and then establish trade and other exchanges. If we look back on the History of the United States, after the war, America and England were not on particularly good terms - but after time passed, tensions cooled and there was enough of a relationship built with them through trade and other means that today, England is one of America's most consistent allies.
