they get a chance to learn about their culture. when i was 9, my parent took me to greece where their parents grew up and i learned so much and loved it. the only thing is you have to take them at an age where they'll pay attention and be able to remember things. my little sister was like 6 and she fell asleep on every tour. but i had a blast and i learned so much about where my ancestors came from and how they lived. its also cool to take them to a small town because in most, people still live the same way they did 50 years ago.

For one, they will appreciate their grandparents more.
It is also very nice if they can get to know relatives that they haven't met- family love and gatherings with delicious food are cultural universals.
It will also give them a chance to learn more about history and culture first hand. If you've been teaching them the language (which you should, because being bilingual is a huge advantage, no matter what your second language is), they will get to practice.

If you have the money to do so....do it. The benefits can be made available without travel.......who knows.
