You could use iChat instead. It should have come on your Mac if you are running MacOS 10.3 or later, and in addition to using the AIM protocol (so you can still talk to all your buddies on the AIM network), it also supports Jabber and Bonjour chats. The "Get Info" menu option will show profiles. If you feel it is lacking in features, you can also download Chax, which has made some adjustments to iChat.

If you are really set on using AIM instead, I would try trashing the preferences first. Preference files are found in the "Library" folder inside your home folder. Quit AIM before you delete. Anything related to "AIM", "AOL IM", etc. can be drug to the Trash. When you start AIM again, you will have to redo any preferences you might have set before, like fonts and colors.

If that doesn't work, then try dragging preferences as well as the program itself (in your Applications folder) to the Trash, and download and install it over again for a fresh start.

2 things you can try:

1. Delete ALL pieces of the software and reinstall
2. Trash preferences and see if that helps.
