If your new to Islam, let me assure you, this is an actual verse (aya) in the Quran. Worse still...when you read the whole chapter (Surah) you discover that its in context.
So, doesnt Allah ask to much of Muslims, I mean, come on, fight everyone who doesnt believe? Why the hell doesnt Allah do it himself, I mean, what kind of sick test is this! Did Allah create Muslims the same way as a child arranges toy soliders and imagines great wars?

This long list of verses from the Holy Quran and the Traditions of Prophet Muhammad (may peace be upon him) show that Islam at it's core and at its source is a religion of peace. Terrorists who persecute innocent people because of their faith are not welcome - their use of Islam as a scapegoat, does not make Islam what they portray it to be.
2:256 There is no compulsion in religion, for the right way is clearly from the wrong way. Whoever therefore rejects the forces of evil and believes in God, he has taken hold of a support most unfailing, which shall never give way, for God is All Hearing and Knowing.
16:82 But if they turn away from you, (O Prophet remember that) your only duty is a clear delivery of the Message (entrusted to you).

60:8 Allah forbids you not, with regard to those who fight you not for (your) Faith nor drive you out of your homes, from dealing kindly and justly with them: for Allah loveth those who are just.
60:9 Allah only forbids you, with regard to those who fight you for (your) Faith, and drive you out of your homes, and support (others) in driving you out, from turning to them (for friendship and protection). It is such as turn to them (in these circumstances), that do wrong.

Although you've been very blunt, I think I might qualify as the most anti-Islamic poster here.
Even I would never claim that there are "a billion jihadists" in the world. That would be dishonest.
In Western Countries, peaceful Muslims are in the majority, and many of the violent ones are imported. In the Middle East, where the violence is the most prevelant, at least half of Muslims are oppressed by the violent ones and are threatened with death if they speak out.
In Indonesia and Malaysia, the environments are liberal for violence, but violence is not rule but the exception.
My objection against Islam as stated here repeatedly, is that free Muslims in free countries refuse to renounce violence. I have received only a few positive responses from Muslims who sound like they're sincere in their love of peace and respect for other human life.
(You should understand that, in the Middle East, the primary tool of violence Muslims is the media as well as their actual weapons. The religion is just an excuse and its verses a tool.)

First of all, the Qu'ran forbids violence in any form...war is strictly forbidden and only permissible in self defense.
Secondly, Jihad IS a nonviolent personal struggle and the extremists take it to the "extreme" by making it into something violent and declaring Jihad against America which is a bunch of crap...because extremists...well...are a bunch of crap!

OK... I am not Muslim, I am christian, But I have taken it upon myself to Understand Every major Religion I can, And I HATE all of them.
Allah, God, Jehovah, I don't care who your Worship, they didn't create religion. Man Created Religion so he could control. Religion is about Controlling your fellow man. The God/Allah/Jehovah/Whoever Invented Faith, and the Moral obligation to Do right.
The Koran was Developed by Muhammad, a Man who, Bear with me here, Needed to Secure an Islamic State of power that would provide for his people. The bible was organized by Christians who needed to consolidate the people behind their Thrones, To give them the "Divine Right" to rule. The same Principle of "Divine Right" became Central to the leaders of Islam.
Religion is Mans corruption of Faith, Faith is the Belief in a higher power. It brings with it Responsibility for your Actions, that one must do the Right thing over the Easiest thing. But not kill the Infidel.

and that ayah was probably writen when muslims were being pursued by other religion. is that really an ayah? muslims were constantly being attacked. would u not defend ur self?
