Most people here want online information, but miss out on things that are archived in libraries. I am in the US, and the town name sounds like it isn't here. You may have the equivalent of a reference librarian, who knows where all the "dusty" files are, the ones that will never make it to the internet. These are sometimes at the local level, or sometimes university libraries, or (US) state archives.
That is who I would cultivate.. although to be honest, I doubt that such things as who worked there (employee lists, so forth) would survive. There may be town histories that would mention the pub, or stories about it. Hit and miss. Sounds like you are searching for someone that may belong on the family tree? *shaking head* It would seem that your "best" source could be family members who may have known the name at one time, but this many years later, that may not be an option.
The only other option I can suggest might be birth registers, which would be a contemporary record. Obviously not a guarantee, but worth tryng.
