Because, and this is speaking from experience, if you don't you will end up paying for it, in one way or another.
But remember that choosing a friend wisely is a subjective choice, and not open to others interpretation of wisdom.

Everyone needs good friends. Your circle of friends will greatly influence your thinking and behavior, just as you will theirs. When you share common values with your friends, you can strengthen and encourage each other. If some of your friends are shy and do not feel included, be particularly sensitive to their feelings and go out of your way to pull them into the influence of your strong circle of good friends. Together you can maintain a high standard of gospel living.

More often than not you become like the people you hang around in many ways. In short bad morals will corrupt good ones. If your going to let people influence you let them in your life....hence a friend....than be sure they are what is really the best thing.

because friends are the most influential people in some people's life. we value their opinions and thus sometimes their opinions are our own. so in all aspects of life: friends are to be chosen wisely. you wouldnt want to be friends who gets you into troubles or make you turn your back on your principle or moral

You should choose your friends wisely to make sure that they accept you for who you are.
Certain 'friends' try to mold you into who they think you SHOULD be instead of accepting you as you are.
Like my friend said to me, 'I have no friends. All I have are enemies. If we stick together, that means we're FAMILY'.

Why shouldn't we? We stay with these people. When you need help, who do you call upon? A friend. Wouldn't you really hate to have a friend and then when you need them, they either don't care or are never there for you?

One reason I can think of is that the Bible says to make no friendship with an angry man lest you become like him.
I'm sure there are many other good reasons also.

Well, why wouldnt you? It just makes sense to chose friends who will empower you, and not hold you back, who have similar values, and who have things in common with you
