I am freaking out. I have a 3 month old baby, and we have both had a round of thrush (fungal infection of mouth/breast, also known as oral yeast infection). It lasted for almost 3 months. I got treated, so did my baby.
NOW I am afraid my doggie (1 and a half year old chihuahua) has Mange or Thrush or some kind of skin fungus and I am GROSSED OUT AND PANICKING because I don't know how I'm going to get rid of it.
I CANNOT afford a vet's visit. I repeat, CANNOT do it AT ALL at least not for an entire MONTH I am that broke. IS there any way possible that I can treat this at home, with any kind of anything at all??? For my baby and me, we had to use Gentian Violet, vinegar rinses, bleach our clothing and bedding, sterilize everything after EVERY use, etc. etc. and it STILL lingered. I am so grossed out. MY house is moldy old trailer (like 50 years old) and I don't have alot of hot water, it only lasts for 4 minutes.
Please please help us quick! Or I will have to giver away!

Must add... I really don't WANT to give my dog up, but I am really not sure If I can treat this on my own and I don't want her to die or something because of it, and I certainly can't deal with the pain and frustration of having another fungal infection myself, and WILL NOT put my baby through it again. If there is no easy fix, THEN WHAT???
And please dont' tell me how I shouldn't have had a baby or dog if I can't take care of them> I didn't know this was going to happen, that I would be living in a small dingy place, etc. etc. Life happens, and so forth.

I COULD ******* AFFORD HER WHEN I GOT HER MY LIFE WENT TO HELL SINCE THEN AND I LOST EVERYTHING EXCEPT HER. THIS IS WHY I HAVE HER, NOT BECAUSE I AM STUPID AND DON'T CARE ABOUT TAKING CARE OF MY PETS. BUT I guess I will have to give her away. This breaks my heart, I can't believe I am in this situation and CAN'T HELP HER.

I am living in a moldy trailer because it was that or nothing.
I suppose living on the street would be the better alternative.
i don't have any other choice.
No family, no friends. Nothing.
And yes, I am going to go give my dog away now. Thanks. Suppose I should give my baby up too.
And then I'll go commit myself.

You know what people she is asking for help not your own personal opinion. Try keeping them to yourselves and just try to help her. Like she said life happens, get over it. She is doing the best that she can!
I am so sorry to hear about your dog getting mange. Right now I would wash all bedding/brushes, groom, and bathe your dog regularly. Also if it is bothering him (the itching) you can try an OTC antihistamine cream to put on the localized area. Also if you can afford it, try getting a mite killing powder (may also contain ingredients to kill ticks and fleas) and place that on your carpet. This will help keep from an even bigger mite problem (the little parasites that cause mange in the first place). If you don't have the money to buy that simple table salt should work for carpets and bedding (I know it works on lice). This should be good enough until you are able to get your dog into the vet.

Can you ask your doctor exactly what the infection was that you had? It may/may not affect dogs. Then you could call a vet and ask specifically if X infection can affect dogs.
What exactly are your dog's signs? It won't do any good to treat with something if it's not the right thing. Miconazole cream (Micatin is the brand name) is good for some, not all, fungal infections. It will do nothing for mange (and there are two types of mange, both with different treatments) or other skin infections.
You might want to call around and see if there are any low-cost vet clinics in your area. Some offer vouchers for people in financial difficulties or you might find a vet who will bill you later. However, vets have to make a living too, so you may not have much luck there. But you never know unless you call.
You should also continue to bleach everything in your home that you can (not including the dog :) ). Be sure to launder bedding well. Sometimes dogs will get over skin infections on their own, just like people, and you can help by keeping your environment as clean as possible.
If she is itching, you could get an oatmeal dog shampoo, which is supposed to be soothing. You can put neosporin ointment on any infected areas and vitamin A and D ointment (baby aisle) on irritated areas. DO NOT USE DESITIN: it contains zinc, which is toxic if ingested. Keep in mind though that these are treating only the clinical signs, not necessarily the underlying problem, and she may still need vet care.
You might have to bite the bullet and find another home for your dog. There are breed-specific rescues out there and a Chihuahua rescue might take your dog. Before you surrender her, however, be sure the shelter/rescue isn't just going to kill her. Some have very limited resources and don't treat sick animals.
Good luck!

Call a rescue or the SPCA and sign your dog over to them.
If you can't afford to care for a pet when it needs medical attention, then you should do the responsible thing and give them to someone who can. It isn't fair to them to suffer because you can't afford a vet visit.
There are many things that your dog might have. Some dogs are allergic to mold, some dogs are allergic to their foods. It could also be a bacterial or fungal infection, or mange, or a lot of other things.
Therefore, there's no way to say over the Internet - "do this to treat it, and that'll work." Your dog really needs a vet visit to determine the cause of the illness and to get proper treatment. There's no way around that. If you can't afford it, it's better to give the dog up than make it suffer.

I am so sorry that things are so bad for you, your baby and your dog. I wish I had a quick solution for you. It may be best considering all your circumstances to give your dog to the Humae Society or something so it can get the treatment it needs. Maybe there is some help for you and your baby with Social Services. I have been there and had to have help myself before. Don't be afraid to ask. Maybe there are some free clinics around who can give you medical help. I wish you well and hope things are looking up for you soon.

A few things:
You shouldn't own a dog if you can't afford it. Give her to a 'no kill' shelter and let someone adopt her who can take care of her.
If you chose not to take that option, you can try some Miconazole Cream. It's an anti-fungal. You can buy it at the grocery store/walmart/etc. The Veterinarians use the same exact thing for dogs as they do on humans for such things.
And last, I don't know why you would allow your dog (let aless your child) live in such moldy environments. It's not safe for any of you.

Mange is going to require vet treatment to cure it. Especially if it is the demodex type. That will take weeks to months of treatment to cure and then there is no guarantee it will not come back.
If you can not afford to treat this dog please see if you can get help with vet bills or place the dog with someone who can afford to provide proper care for it.

i'M Sorry you have the yeast infection.
I don't know if your dog has mange, is it's hair falling out?
When we are stressed our immune systems lower and yeast can creep in. Fight it by eatting Yogart and lowering your sugar intake.
have a friend check you dog for spots or hair falling out.
use gloves.
Sorry, but if you cannot afford a vet visit, you cannot afford a dog.
Sounds like you have a lot going on, and the dog is no longer your companion, perhaps you should find it a good home!
You need to relax, and take care of "mommy and baby".

Well give your dog a bath and after keep them in the bathroom and sterilze everything your dog has touched. Then after that wash your hands so you dont get it. Then give your dog another bath. Give the dog a bath two days and you'll be fine.

Nice that you can afford to have a computer and pay for internet but you can't care for your pet or move into a better home...
Makes a lot of sense.... if you are struggling that much, maybe you need to reevaluate whether you need such luxuries.
