The brand and specific item names are most important. Once you find ones you like, the freshest of the ones you like that are available would be the best choice.

Date isn't important in some cases, some very heavy ales and beers are aged like wine and taste even better than younger versions.

Freshness by far. You can have the best beer in the world but if it is old it will taste like crap.

both...you dont want to drink really cheap beer and feel sick, plus its worth buying the good brand cuz its tastes better...and fresher beer tastes a lot better
