There are probably three reasons for this:
1) lack of faith---they believe that it was only for Jesus and the appostles.
2) lack of the Holy Spirit--- they are still practicing sin in their lives
3) those who try do it for their own glory and not the glory of God.

Actually, we were told we would be able to do even greater things. However, I believe we have fallen waaaaaaay short in the faith department.

Plus, a lot of us understand zilch about dealing with demonic forces or spiritual warfare.

Bottom line, we stink.

Have a great day!

I have been a part of intense demonic exorcisms, but in my experience most can be dealt with by simply learning to walk in purity. It does not always have to be a dramatic event to overcome something as extreme as demonic influence.

Jesus' command was given to the disciples there at the time.

There's little to no reason for any of us to take any of the words in the Bible personally until we go through the same stages of belief as they did. This command represents the last lesson Jesus had for them, and few of us have reached that point.
