rave? never heard of it. i just sunrocket about 3 weeks ago. so far i'm satisfied with it. cheapest, only $199 for the entire year. you can either get 3 months free or a pair of nice GE cordless phones. lots of features. no contract so if you're not satisfied anytime, u get your money back, proration of the $199. if it doesn't work out for you, just cancel it. service has been fine for me. works just like a regular phone.
only real complaint so far is when you call for new service, you will get a person on the line within seconds but when you call as an existing customer for support, it took me 10-30 min to get a person on the line (i had to make several calls when i intially got the service because i was porting my original landline # over). there were time tho that someone answered within a couple minutes. cust srvce closes at midnight (so they say), i called once at 10pm and i got a message saying that they are busy and to call at a later time. that kinda pissed me off because for new service they're quick but once you're a customer, they make you wait.
i don't plan on calling customer service all that much so i'm going to keep it for now. the lack of customer service isn't enough to make me cancel it since the service is so cheap and there is no contract.

I'm also a sunrocket customer and I must say I'm quite pleased. I opted to go the 15 months for $199, but I also got a $40 rebate from greedybargains.com for using their clickthrough link, so now I'm paying in effect $10.60 for phone service with unlimited long distance to US and Canada, plus 100 minutes or so per month of international calls. That's less than half the price of Vonage, and the service is good. Never needed customer service so I don't know how they are. I still have the box and the prepaid shipping label to send it all back for a refund if I get fed up with it, but I don't think I'll ever be using it.
Personally, I'd be real leary about going with a VoIP service that no one's ever heard of or doesn't have a reputation. Even Sunrocket when it was first starting out had problems with service outages. There are those who are comfortable living with a start-up companies growing pains and if that's you, that's fine. Just make sure you have some form of a backup like a real landline or a cell phone. For me, I like having a service I can count on and is not like throwing my money into the wind hoping I can get something out of it.
