Mainland China uses 220-volt, 50-hertz AC. Some items designed for 110-volt will work (but not synchronous items like record players and clocks) by using a transformer. Also, there are a number of outlet sockets in China (my apartment has three different types), so you may need adapters. Some electronics, like computers, will work at either 110 VAC or 220 VAC (sometimes with a switch you have to move). Other items, mostly using AC-to-DC converters or high-AC to low-AC transformers, like laptop chargers, will work OK in China. I suggest that you leave your US items in storage (or give them away), and buy new when you get to China - that's what I did. Just be aware that some items, like computers, are expensive in China (you can get a better price in New York than in Shanghai), but most, like irons, vacuums, etc. are cheaper here. Also, be aware that Asian vacuum cleaners are smaller and less powerful than ones you are used to in the US.

Make sure your electronics say 110-240v on them. They should work fine if it says this and you shouldn't need an adapter since Chinese outlets are made to handle several different styles of plugs. If your electronics are only 110v then buy a converting adapter. Radio Shack is a good place to find them. When I bought mine it was $20. It might be a little more now since that was a few years ago. However, I have never used it since it was easier to buy things like a hairdryer, an iron, a vaccuum cleaner, and such here. It's also likely to be cheaper and you won't have the shipping costs of getting all those electronics over to China.

Just get a 220v converter for a rated 100+ Watts. (you dryer will require you to have some higher wattage due to the power consumptions)
I have use shavers, laptops, hair dryers, game boy, projector and psp in china. Have not had any issues yet.

everybody has the right answer, the only thing about 120v to 220v adapters is that they can't handle much wattage, they are only made for camera batteries that don't take much power. check the wattage on your electronics and the wattage rating on that converter. i think if you're going to live in china you should buy these items in china and you will be ok

The chinese language cameras could have various helpful helpful factors yet they don't look to be meant to final for extra desirable than a year. in case you basically choose something to your holiday, or in case you decide directly to enhance according to annum, I propose you purchase a chinese language kind. in case you flow someplace the place you are able to good deal for the fee, you will discover something severely much less, yet then you certainly could desire to worry approximately warranties.
