i have a siberian husky puppy of 12 weeks and a pug of 2 1/2 years...now, my pug might think otherwise, but he is hyper around children and other dogs or certain people...a real lover with me, and an almost human like intelligence...

the husky is too new to be anything, but he is a quick learner and eager to please.

these guys go at it all day long...the pug just keeps jumpin on the husky or bringin it a toy to pull on, tries to steal the puppies toys to get a rise out of him....the husky tends to nip at the pug when the pug comes to play and he turns on his side and paws and bites (not too hard) at the pug, whom by the way mouths very lightly but puts his body into it like he was.

they play may start like that, but it continues to increase, especially when the husky bites at the pugs neck or tries to bite his paws (not at full strength)...there hasn't yet been any blood drawn, but i am worried.

is this normal behavior? btw, the pug never stops, the husky tries to hide.

pug's by nature (as I'm sure you know) can be hyper, pushy, never ending bundles of energy :) That's what make's them the card's they are..
Sound's pretty like normal Pug behavior & the fact that you've "noticed" it is a step in the right direction :)
Just keep an eye on thing's, Don't let it get out of hand if they get too rough seperate them & let them know way you'r doing it..
And above all else you ned to stay in control & let them BOTH know what behavior is acceptalbe & what's not..
Rember in no time at all that puppy is going to be 3 x's the size of the Pug so keeping thing's under control is going to be vry inportant..
Best Of Luck :)

I have 2 Rhodesian Ridgebacks. A year and a half old Female and her stepbrother a 7 month old Male. They do this all the time too. :D Just as others have said on here this is playtime and totally normal. Plush she is teaching the puppy manners somewhat. You would be able to tell if it was a real fight. I see my Female nip the puppy when she has had enough and she trys getting away to lay in a different spot. When that doesn't work the first time, she'll snarl and wrinkle up her top lip and sometimes she even snaps. Especially if she has a bone or toy. She guards it from him. My puppy just doesn't seem to get it though. He bounces all around her play bowing and barking and growling, trying to get her to play so he can steal the bone. She does the snarling thing, and then he hauls off and smacks her with his paw sometimes... its all fun and play to him, nothing serious. Its hilarious. he always wants the bone that has been chewed on the most. I can put several bones or toys out for them, but they insist on stealing each others! Just like step sister and step brother. I can see the are definitely related! LOL :D

You've had the pug for a while and the puppy is new. The pug has ruled the house for a long time until you brought this new puppy in. Part of what the pug is doing is showing the puppy who is the boss. Sort of like, "it's my house, you have to follow my rules."

This is all pretty normal. Keep an eye on them. You may have to take the pup out by itself on occasion, just to give it a break from the Pug but in six months, that husky is going to be bigger and will be very able to take care of himself. Although, I went through sort of the same thing a few years ago and the pup, who wound up a LOT bigger, always deferred to the older dog, even though he could have beaten the crap out of her at that point.

Give the Husky some one on one attention but don't forget to do the same for your loyal buddy, the Pug. Try to take the Pug out in the yard and throw a frisbee or whatever it likes to do as play, and wear her out a bit. Hopefully, she'll be too tired to hassle the husky for a while.

In a couple weeks, they'll both have figured out their place in the family hierarchy but keep an eye on them until it settles down. You don't want a scared puppy but you do want them to socialize and learn to be together too. You just may need to give the puppy a break now and then until they get settled in.

The pug is trying to establish his dominance in his territory. The tug-of-war with the toys is a dominance game. The winner gets the toy. When the pup rolls over he is actually giving in to the pug but because he continues to nip at the pug's feet, he is not giving up completely, which is what the pug wants. The pug is too small and has too small a bite radius to actually force the husky pup into a dominance roll-over and so he is resorting to other biting games to establish and maintain his position. The pup in return, when biting at the pug's neck is also trying to assert a level of dominance.
It is not so much play as it is a serious social interchange between dogs. There is nothing to do, barring any true aggression but to let it play itself out.
Should serious aggression rear its head, remove the aggressor. Removing the victim will cause the him to fear the other.

Sounds like normal dog play to me. You may want to keep a watchful eye and if the husky pup appears to be "done" with play time, then you may need to step in and make sure the pug calls it quits. Pups at 12 weeks still tend to rest/sleep a lot and don't have that non-stop play ability that an older dog can have.

This is very, very normal! They both are just having a ball. Puppies in a litter play like this all the time.
If one pup yips the other will stop whatever made the other yip and all is forgiven and there back at playing again. The pug will slow doen once the Husky towers over him.
Just stop the playing if it starts to get on the really rough side. Or if you have just had enough!!!Sometimes they just dont know when to yell "Uncle".

All perfectly normal play. This is very good training for the husky, teaching him not to bite too hard when he is playing.

I have had 4 Great Danes in the house during a long cold winter when they can't get out for much exercise. You would think they were going to eat each other alive, when they get pouncing on each other and waving those tremendous jaws around. But it's all in play, and they are actually quite gentle with each other, in spite of the racket!

What you have, is 2 normal pups. I have 6 dogs, 4 I got within the same year, and they all did the same thing you just described. It's normal play-acting. About the only time you'd need to worry is when you heard a serious growl or 2 from one or the other that translates to "back off, I'm tired," or, ""Hey, I SAID I don't want to play right now!" BTW-2 of mine still love to play, and one's a 9-yr old Lab who towers over the smaller 5 yr-old mutt-but they play and roughhouse all day long like they were the same size, even though the smaller one knows the Lab could kick her butt easily!

This is normal. They'll go at it for a while, because the older dog is actually helping teach the pup how to not bite too hard and teaching other things through example. This'll actually go on for a while. The time to worry would be probably after the pup is about 6 months old and they still go at it.
