Go for a varied diet. You absolutely need the micronutrient support from fruits and vegetables and no single one is going to give you everything you need.

A great shopping tip is to shop for as many colors as possible. Different colors in fruits and vegetables come from different antioxidants, minerals, vitamins and other micronutrients.

Eat some raw food each day. Cooking depletes food of many nutrients.

Be adventurous. If you see a new fruit or vegetable in the store, try one. Eat it all. If you don't like it, don't get it again. If you do, then add it to your list of favorite foods and learn new ways to prepare it.

Because "live produce" literally eats itself in order to survive, canned fruits and vegetables can actually contain higher levels of micronutrients than their "fresh" counterparts. For example, it can be proven that whole canned tomatoes have higher concentrations of licopene than "fresh" ones. That being said, you should still eat raw produce when possible because it provides additional benefits to support good health.

Supplements are there to supplement, not substitute, the benefits of a good diet. Even the American Medical Association published an article in the Journal of the American Medical Association telling doctors to recommend their patients take supplements to simply ensure they are getting enough daily micronutrient support. You don't need to go all crazy and take a bunch of pills. You should at least choose a high-quality, food-based multivitamin supplement as the best source of nutritional support. Keep in mind that most supplements are very poor quality, so don't just grab something because it's the cheapest you can find.

You should eat 'a wide variety' of fruits, vegetables, complex carbohydrate, and proteins from meat, fish, eggs, cheese, soy products, 'beans' (generally 'dried' beans, like pinto, red, or lima beans, plus others, milk (for the calcium you need for 'healthy bones and teeth) ... and you should make sure that you eat three 'good meals' daily and get the right number of 'calories' and the right amount of 'good exercise' ... and if you are a male, then you have 'time' to 'grow a few more inches' because you won't 'stop growing' until you are about 25 ... but if you are a 'female' you have 'less time' since you will stop growing when you are 17-18.

Every fruits, greens, and vegetables you can think of, lean meats, whole grain breads, no sodas; that's all. They all must be fresh (not canned).
