ROTC is the Reserve Officer Training Corps. It is the training ground for officers of all branches in the US Armed Forces, but they are designated by branch. They are part of colleges throughout the US but not all colleges have ROTC programs. They produce officers for Reserve and Active duty units. More officers on active duty come from the ROTC than they do from any other commissioning source. You apply for ROTC while enrolled as a student in college. There is training during the academic year as well as summer military training camp.

If successfully completed, the student will be commissioned into the branch of service which the ROTC program serves. ROTC graduates are commissioned into the reserves but some do go on to active duty units, this can be a competitive position to get.

The other sources of Military officer commissions are the Academies (West Point, Naval Academy, Air Force Academy). Officer Candidate School (OCS) or direct battlefield commissions, which have not happened for a long time.

About ROTC, in first 2 years with no military obligation. And to join or not with your own decision before the end of the sophomore year.

Apply it by mail or online at below:

If its the same as in Canada, then it is the regular officer training course. It is where you go to school either at a military academic institution, or a civilian university, and once you graduate you are required to fulfill a min service in the forces. The benefit is that it's free and you get paid to do it. Also you are gauranteed a job after you graduate without any debts.
