If it is someone who works for you, make them miserable. I had a secretary who did things on purpose, so I really flooded her with work. I also failed her on her evaluation (it was deserved). It took a few months, but she finally resigned.
A lot of people are passive agressive. You have to ignore it, don't react to anything that the person says to you. When you don't react it makes them upset. You can also tell them to leave you alone, stop calling, e-mailing, etc.

As human beings we must accept that people are different. I always say that you might hurt someone in the short run by telling them the truth about how you feel about them but in the long run you will be saving them a lot of grief and humiliation. They might not like you too much... but you need to just tell them that they irritate you and to get out of your face. There is no shame in not liking someone. It just means your personalities are not compatible. Don't entertain someone just because you are trying not to hurt their feelings. Just be honest and say "Hey... I am sorry, but you are really irritating me, can you excuse me please?" I guarantee you, they'll leave, if they don't... get a restraining order! LOL!

If you allow someone to irritate you, they are neither petty or insignificant to you.

Well, first of all you need to change your mindset. You sould stop thinking of them as "petty, insignificant people", and recognize them as equal, if not greater than yourself. If I were to judge you from this one statement, I'd maybe think you were a very uncaring, egotistical, impatient, and rude person. But I'm sure that's not the case. : )

If possible, politely ignore them. If not, blatantly ignore them. If they persist beyond reason, feel free to notify the law before you mace them.

I don't. I don't deal with them and do not allow them to irritate me.
